CASTLE CARY 2 - NAILSEA UNITED 3
2010-04-17

Match Report from 17th April

United travelled to face Castle Cary who were placed several positions above them in the league.

Kicking up the slope Nailsea were first to look for the opening goal when after 5 minutes a long throw by James Taylor was headed just wide by Jim Lee. Almost immediately the home side went into the lead when a cross shot found its way into the Nailsea net.

Within 2 minutes United were on level terms when Jim Lee met a Matt Long free kick with his head to find the back of the net. United continued to press, strong work by Jim Lee saw him cut in from the left to crash the ball into the roof of the net from a narrow angle giving the Castle Cary keeper no chance. The remainder of the half saw no clear cut chances with Nailsea just about deserving to take a 2-1 lead at half time.

At the start of the second half Rob Wilson replaced the injured Ben Cook. Almost immediately United could have stretched their lead when a firm header by James Taylor from a Matt Long corner was saved by the home keeper. Nailsea had to wait until the 60th minute to go two goals in front when Jim Lee fired in from the edge of the box for a well deserved hat trick.

Within minutes a lack of concentration by the Nailsea defence allowed the home team to close the margin to one goal. Castle Cary were now the more dominant of the two teams with Nailsea reduced to breakaways. With 15 minutes to go Ryan Kinnerk who had a fine game was substituted with Jack Summerell taking his place in the back four.

The home side continued to press for the equaliser but could not prise open the Nailsea defence. It was with some relief that the final whistle was blown with Nailsea taking all 3 points. Although only on the pitch for the last 20 minutes Jack Summerell caught the eye as a future talented defender for United, making several timely tackles.
