NAILSEA UTD RES 5 - PORTISHEAD RES 2
2010-04-10

An impressive performance from Nailsea Utd Reserves saw them take the points against local rivals Portishead.

Daryl Workman opened the scoring with a smart left footed shot under the keeper from the edge of the box. Minutes later he made it two by connecting with Holman’s long clearance and out-muscling the visitors’ defence to double United’s lead. Mat Vickers looked to have sealed the win for the home side when he wriggled through and forced the ball home from long range.

The start of the second half saw a resurgence from Portishead, and with two quick goals they reduced the deficit to 3-2 with still 40 minutes to play. However, this only served to inspire an improvement from Nailsea, as Jamie Adams was introduced to take control of the midfield. The star of the second half was Ben Thorne, who nodded home from a free kick to make it 4-2, and then found room to add his second and Nailsea’s fifth.

KEYNSHAM TOWN RES 1 - NAILSEA UTD RES 2
2010-02-27

United’s Reserves staged an excellent second half fight back to record their second consecutive victory.

Keynsham started much the brighter of the two teams and spent much of the opening half hour camped inside the Nailsea half. Chances were fairly limited, but eventually the pressure told when a Keynsham striker hit the roof of the net with a smart shot on the turn. Nailsea had a few bright moments as Bannerman and Cogan got behind the home defence, only for the linesman’s flag to bring the attacks to a halt.

The half time words of Nailsea managers Green and Micciche encouraged their side to take the game to the home side, and this paid almost immediate dividends as Chris Gale ran through to equalise just minutes after the restart.

United were now rejuvenated, and took the lead when a long looping cross from Summerell put the home keeper in trouble, and he spilled the ball straight to Cogan to nudge home from close range.

Nailsea had to endure a few scares as they tried to seal the victory, with Benson’s goal under serious assault as the ball hit the post only to rebound into his grateful arms. Keynsham thought they had their equaliser when the ball hit the bar and bounced towards the goal line, but the referee adjudged it had not crossed the line. In the closing minutes another Keysham strike from distance rattled the bar, but again bounced away to safety, and Nailsea held onto to a precious 3 points.
